Getting Started

Start your research with reference sources to gather background information and context on your topic. These sources will help you identify key termspeople, related topics and core sources

To Find Reference Sources

  1. Select a reference resource below or find one by searching the catalog (topic + encyclopedias, e.g.anorexia encyclopedias)
  2. Search your topic within the reference source
  3. Note terms found. Use these in the catalog and database to find books and articles

Reference Sources

Find Books

Like reference sources, books can also give an overview and put a topic into context. However, they will go more in depth. If you find a good book or book chapter, don't forget to look at the bibliography or notes to find more relevant works. 

To Find Books:

  1. In the catalog, search combinations of key concepts about your topic, such as: "social justice" and "african american"
  2. Brainstorm different terms to try
  3. If a book is not available, select search MOBIUS to find another copy
